Tinga is an independently owned Mexican bar and restaurant on Salt Lane with an immersive dining experience that transports you to the heart of Mexico City. We’ve had a delicious lunch here and spoke to owner, Dave Hancock to learn more about their story…
How was Tinga launched?
Dave and Aimee, a local couple, fell in love with Mexican street food on a visit to Mexico City. We loved the culture of sharing small plates of food packed full of flavour and spice. We wanted to take this vibrant and energetic dining experience and build a venue where people can come to drink, eat and enjoy high quality dishes made from ingredients authentic to Mexico.
What gives you inspiration?
We are about to launch a new takeaway app which will help bring a taste of Tinga to front rooms all over Salisbury. We have a new menu incoming and some really cool events planned like ‘dias de los muertos’
Why do you love Salisbury?
Salisbury is a 21st Century medieval City that is surrounded by stunning heritage and culture. For a tiny City we attract thousands of visitors from around the globe who want to share and experience this and we should feel lucky to live here every day. There is also a very strong independent business community who work tirelessly to make Salisbury more attractive for future visitors and investment.
How has your business been affected by the recent nerve agent attack?
Tinga opened after the nerve agent attack but our other businesses did feel extreme financial pressure during last year. Our view is that Salisbury can use the terrible incident as a springboard in 2019 to showcase the wonderful array of diverse independent businesses and hope to attract more and more visitors.
